Specifically, based on the continent production, the American continent is the center of world production with production reaching 47.9 million tons or 40.7% of the world’s total production of chicken meat. The second position is followed by Asia with production reaching 42.8 million tons or contributing about 36.3% of total world production and the third position is occupied by Europe with production reaching 19.4 million tons or contributing 16.5% of total world production.

1. The United States of America

The United States of America is the world’s biggest chicken producer with production reaching 20.6 million tons in 2021. Broiler poultry in this country is spread across several states. Georgia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi are the five states that produce enormous amounts of chicken meat. Based on data obtained from the National Chicken Council in the United States, the state of Georgia can produce 1.3 million tons of chicken meat, the state of Alabama can produce 1.1 million tons, Arkansas is one million tons, North Carolina is 873 thousand tons, and Mississippi is 748 thousand tons. In this country, chicken production is dominated by large corporations. Major corporations that dominate the broiler market include Tyson Food, Pilgrim’s Pride Corp, Sanderson Farm Inc, Purdue Food, and Koch Food. These companies also cooperate with local farmers in producing chickens with a contract system between farmers and these companies.


2.China

China is the second-biggest chicken meat producer in the world. In 2021, chicken meat production was 14.7 million tons. There are several provinces that are central to chicken meat production. The provinces include Shandong, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Liaoning, and Hebei are some of the biggest provinces of chicken meat production. In this country, there are several large chicken farming companies that control the chicken meat trade. These companies include Guangdong Wen’s Food Group Co., Ltd., Shandong New Hope, Liuhe Group Co. Ltd., Charoen Pokphand Group, Dalian Hanwei Enterprise Group, and Beijing DQY Agriculture Technology Co., Ltd.


3.Brazil

Brazil is the third-largest chicken-producing country in the world with production reaching 14.6 million tons in 2021. The chicken farming sector is a mainstay for Brazil because it can provide jobs for its 3.6 million population, both directly and indirectly. In this country, chicken farms have spread in several states, but the southern region of Brazil is still the center of chicken production. Paraná, Santa Catarina, Grande do Sul states in Southern Brazil that are central to chicken production. Parana contributed 30%, Santa Catarina 17%, and Grande do Sul 14% to Brazil’s national chicken meat production. In this country, the chicken meat trade is controlled by several large corporations such as BRF S.A, JBS S.A, and Copacol.


4.Russia

Russia is the fourth-largest producer of chicken meat in the world. In 2021, its production reached 4.6 million tons. Some areas become the center of chicken meat production in Russia. The Belgorod Region, Chelyabinsk Region, Leningrad Region, Stavropolsky Krai, and Brianskaya Oblast are the largest regions for chicken meat production in Russia.


5. Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the producers of chicken meat in the world. Statistically, Indonesia ranks sixth as the world’s largest chicken producer. In 2021, according to data from FAO, chicken meat production in Indonesia reached 3.8 million tons.

Until 2020, based on the data of National Statistics of Indonesia, the center of chicken meat production was still in the Java Island Region. This happens because the largest population in Indonesia is still scattered on the island of Java. The province of Indonesia with the biggest production of chicken meat, namely jawa barat (west java) with 838 thousand tons, jawa tengah (central java) with 638 thousand tons, jawa timur (east java) with 474 thousand tons, and Banten 207 thousand tons.

In Indonesia alone, there are two systems for developing chicken meat production and marketing. These patterns include independent patterns and partnerships with livestock companies. The independent pattern means that all production, processing, and marketing activities from beginning to end are the responsibility of the perpetrator or the farmer himself while the partnership pattern is a pattern of cooperation between farmers and livestock companies such as JAPFA or Charoen Pokhpand in developing chicken production to marketing. Partner companies usually provide seeds, marketing assistance, training to chicken farmers.


6. India

India is the fifth largest country in the world as the world’s highest producer of chicken meat in 2021. In that year, its chicken meat production reached 3.6 million tons. In this country, there are some states with the biggest production of chicken meat. Commonly, these provinces are Haryana with the production of 352 thousand tons, followed by West Bengal with 328 thousand tons, Uttar Pradesh with 270 thousand tons, and Tamil nandu with 144 thousand tons.


7. Mexico           

Mexico is the seventh-largest producer country in the world with production reaching 3.57 million tons. In this country, there are some regions of chicken meat production. These areas are Central-West (CW) and Central-Eastern (CE) regions contributing a cumulative 53.37 % meanwhile the Northeast (NE) and Yucatan Peninsula (PE) regions contributed only 7.76 %.



8. Japan

Japan is the 8th largest producing country with production reaching 2.4 million tons in 2021. Although this country has one biggest production of chicken meat in the world, this country still imported the chicken meat from Thailand, Brazil, China, and United States.


9.Argentina    

Argentina is the 9th largest country in the world with production in 2021 reaching 2.29 million tonnes. Entre Rios and Buenos Aires are some of regions in Argentina’s biggest area of Poultry Slaughter. Because high consumption of chicken meat, this country still imported the chicken meat to meet domestic consumption from the other countries, namely Brazilian, Uruguayan, and Paraguay.

10 .Turkiye


Turkiye is the 10th world’s biggest with production of chicken meat around 2,245,770 tons. geographically, in Turkiye, there are some cities of chicken meat production areas in Turkey namely, Manisa, Samsun, Izmir, Elazıg, Bolu

11. Iran (the Islamic Republic of)         

Iran was one of the biggest chicken meat producer in the world in 2021. In that year, its chicken meat production reached 1.98 million tons. In this country, there are some provinces with the biggest production of chicken meat. The six biggest provinces in broiler production are Esfahan, Mazandaran, Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, Fars, and Khuzestan. Commonly, these six states contribute 44 percent of the total broiler production in Iran.
