10 World’s Biggest Plantain Producers- According to FAO Statistical Database in 2022, there are 10 World’s Biggest Plantain Producers. These countries have huge of plantain production to meet domestic consumption and some of its production can be traded to other countries. The cooking banana (plantain) includes the genus Musa. Specifically, This Bananas must be cooked because they contain high levels of starch less sugar. It’s different from commonly bananas that can be consumed in fresh condition. 1.Uganda
Uganda still became the World’s Biggest Plantain Producers in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database in 2022, the production of Uganda’s Plantain around 7,401,579 tonnes. Geographically, the production area of plantain from Uganda concentrated in the Western region. Some of the district in Western Region that has a huge contribution to Uganda are Isingiro, Mbarara, and Bushenyi.
2.Democratic Republic of the Congo
Congo still became the 2nd World’s Biggest Plantain Producer in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database in 2022, the production of Plantain from Congo was around4,891,990 tonnes. In Congo, the cultivars of plantain can be sorted into 3 groups namely, French, False Horn and Horn. Genetically, Libanga Likale, Yumba, Kayinja are some of the most popular plantain cultivars in Congo.
3.Ghana
Ghana is the 3rd World’s biggest producer of plantain in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database in 2022, the production of Ghana’s Plantain around 4,667,999 tonnes. Geographically, the production of Plantain concentrated in Eastern, Ashanti, and Brong-Ahafo. In this country, Plantain become one of the most cultivated crops besides Yam and Cassava.
4.Cameroon
Cameron is the 4th World’s biggest producer of plantain in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database in 2022, the production of Cameroon’s Plantain around 4,526,069 tonnes. Statistically, Plantain is important for food in Cameroon and the consumption of plantain can reach 100 kg/capita/year. Genetically, Some of the most popular plantain cultivars in Cameroon are ‘Ebang’ and ‘Essong’.
5.Philippines
The Philippines is 5th World’s biggest producer of plantain in 2020 and the biggest from Asia region. This production of plantain from Philippines reached 3,100,839 tonnes in 2020. Geographically, In Philippines, the most plantain cultivation is on the island of Mindanao. Based on the region, Davao region, Northern Mindanao, and Soccskargen are some of the cultivation areas.

Nigeria is the 6th biggest producer of plantain 2020. According to FAO Statistical database in 2020, the production of Plantain from Nigeria reached 3,077,159 tons. in this country, Southern part still become the major area cultivation in Nigeria.
7.Colombia
Columbia is the 7th biggest producer of plantain in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Database in 2022, the production of plantain from Columbia reached 2,475,611 tonnes in 2020. Some of the plantation cultivation located in Hispania and Jardín in the Southwest of Antioquia
8.Côte d’Ivoire
Côte d’Ivoire is the next biggest producer of Plantain in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Database in 2022, the production of plantain from this country reached 1,882,779 tonnes. In this country, Plantain commonly known as “Alloco”. Based on Cultivar, there some popular plantain in this country. these cultivars are Kpatregnon, Ameletiha, Agnrin and Afoto.
9.Myanmar
Myanmar is the 9th biggest producer of Plantain in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database in 2020, the production of Plantain from Myanmar reached 1,361,419 tonnes. In this country, some of the plantain cultivars are the phee gyan and Thihmway.
10.Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic is the 10th biggest producer of Plantain in 2020. According to FAO Statistical Database in 2022, the production of Plantain from this country reached 1,053,143 tonnes. Geograhically, the plantain production from Dominican Republic concentrated in the provinces of Espaillat, La Vega, Hermanas Mirabal, Sanchez Ramirez, Santiago, Valverde, Barahona, and Montecristi.
